Inspire Nation has been appointed by the Swedish government to look at cities that have successfully fostered creativity and clusters. The delegation will meet with creative and city leaders on a study tour of Manchester and Liverpool in the UK.
A hotbed of creativity, Manchester is second only to London in creative and media industries, and is recognised as a centre of excellence in new media production and software development. The city has the largest concentration of creative industry employment in the UK, with over 18,000 people employed and 4,000 businesses operating in the sector. Creative industries have contributed enormously to the city’s regeneration - and the Northern Quarter of the city has emerged as a fringe economy, led by creative entrepreneurs and artists.
The Swedish delegates will also visit Liverpool, which has encouraged the development of sector-specific clusters in Biotech, Food, Tourism, Maritime and IT, according to the region’s strengths. During the tour, the group will also learn about the regeneration of Liverpool and how the city’s construction strategy is helping to create new opportunities.
